The Rochester Adams Junior Varsity Basketball Team opened their 2008-2009 season with a 76-50 win over Detroit Consortium on December 9th. Adams jumped out to an 11-3 lead midway thru the opening period until Consortium came back to pull within 2 at1st quarter end. Adams outplayed their opponent most of the game but still at half it was a 5 point game with Adams up 34-29. Adams pulled away from there and was tough down low in the 2nd half. Brad Nylen led the Adams attack with 17 points; Spencer Cairo added 16, with Nick Zekaj 9 and Mario Roveda 7. The JV travel to Utica Eisenhower on December 12th for their next game.

The Rochester Adams Junior Varsity Basketball Team went 2-0 in the young 2008 season with a convincing 57-34 win over Utica Eisenhower on December 12th. Adams jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the 1st quarter and never looked back from there the rest of the game. Strong play both down low and from the perimeter from Adams was too much for Eisenhower to overcome. Richard Park led the scoring for Adams with 15 points, Spencer Cairo added 12 and Desante Dinkins poured in 8. Now the JV travel to Pontiac Northern for an always tough matchup on Thursday December 18th.

Score:46-53 The Adams Basketball JV Highlanders lost a tough and hard fought Game to Pontiac Northern on December 12th. Adams fought hard to break Northern's press and had spots of doing so as evidenced by a 12-12 end of 1st quarter score and a tied score at half at 27. Adams was down 48-46 with 3 minutes to go, and had a few chances to take the lead, but turnovers unfortunately haunted the young Highlanders in the end. Spencer Cairo led the scoring with 17 points along with 8 rebounds, Kosta Patsarikas added 8 points with Mario Roveda chipping in 6. Brad Nylen also had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Now the JV squad practices over the Holiday break to prepare for the start of the new year on January 6th vs. Troy Athens.

The Adams JV Highlanders opened 2009 with a 45-39 win over Troy Athens. Adams started very slow from the long Holiday break, falling behind 13-4 at the end of the 1st period. Baskets by Matt Nestor, Richard Park and Spencer Cairo ignited the Highlanders on a 10-0 run to start the 2nd period. Another 6-0 run to end the period thanks to buckets from Brad Nylen and Jacob Boyle, made it 21-20 Adams at the half. The game remained close until midway in the 4rth when Adams went up by 10. Adams held off Athens from there to end the game. Brad Nylen led the Highlander charge with 14 points, Richard Park chipped in 9, followed by Matt Nestor with 7 and Mario Roveda with 6.

The Adams JV Highlanders continued their winning ways with a 45-40 win over Lake Orion. Adams played their best quarter of the season in the 1rst period with balanced scoring from 7 players including baskets from Jacob Boyle, Nick Ojeshina, and Matt Nestor to open up a 18-10 lead. A Spencer Cairo bucket and 2 free throws from Richard Park was the only scoring in the 2nd period as the half ended with Adams up 22-17. In the 3rd period Adams held Lake Orion to 4 points and scored 16 of their own, thanks in part to 5 points by Kosta Patsarikas, and 2 points from Mario Roveda. Adams led 38-22 going into the last period. Lake Orion went on a 13-0 run to open the last stanza until baskets by Roveda, Ben Hollett and Brad Nylen and a late free throw by Nestor held off the Dragons to secure the win. Mario Roveda led the Highlanders with 9 points, Brad Nylen contributed 8 points and 9 rebounds. Jacob Brown had 6 points while Ben Hollett and Spencer Cairo had 5 rebounds each. in Total 11 players scored for the Highlanders. Desante Dinkins played the point position very well and Frank Aragona played solid defense and had a couple of rebounds.

The JV Highlanders suffered their 2nd loss of the season at the hands of Troy by the score of 68- 47. Adams went on a 9-0 run after Troy made the first basket of the game, however Troy fought right back to make it a tie score at 16 to end the 1rst period. Spencer Cairo scored 9 of his game high 18 points in the 2nd period, along with buckets from Brad Nylen and Ben Hollett, however Troy led 32-29 at the half. Troy came out on fire after the half, hitting 3 consecutive 3 point shots and in total opened an 18-0 run. Adams pulled to within 15 at one point in the 2nd half, but Troy pulled right back to preserve the win. Spencer Cairo led the Highlanders with 18 points and 7 rebounds, Brad Nylen added 10 points and 8 rebounds, Richard Park had 7 points, Mario Roveda added 4.

The Adams JV Highlanders won a thrilling overtime game over Avondale by the score of 73-70 on January 16th. This game was maybe not the best played game for the JV Highlanders all season, but by far showed confidence and determination that should springboard the squad for the remainder of the season. Avondale jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game before Coach Franklin called a timeout to calm his troops down. Jacob Brown sank a bucket to break the ice and the Highlanders were on their way. Spencer Cairo scored 8 in the 1rst period and Matt Nestor sank a couple of free throws. Mario Roveda hit a '3' to end the period with Adams up 19-17. The 2nd period remained close as Brad Nylen heated up for 4 points and Richard Park hit a couple of free throws. The half ended with Adams up 30-28. The 3rd period also remained close as Brown, Nestor, Nylen, Roveda and Cairo contributed points along with Kosta Patsarikas. Adams went into the 4rth period up 47-42. Avondale started the 4rth on a terror, going on a 22-4 run to put them up by 13 midway thru the 4rth. Patsarikas and Brown hit 3's to break the trend, in total Kosta and Jacob each had 7 points in the period. Matt Nestor hit a crucial free throw to tie the game and send into overtime. Roveda hit 3 big free throws in overtime, while Jacob Brown scored 4 points and Nylen contributed 2 to seal the overtime win. Jacob Brown led the Highlanders with 17 points, 11 coming between the 4rth period and overtime. Spencer Cairo had a 'double-double' with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Brad Nylen had 13 points and 9 rebounds. Mario Roveda scored 12 points, and Kosta Patsarikas chipped in 9.

The JV Highlanders lost a tough battle to Berkley on January 23rd. Berkley started the game by jumping out to a 7-0 lead before most fans had settled in their seats. After a timeout, Kosta Patsarikas hit a jumper to put Adams on the board. In the 1st Period Richard Park connected on two '3''s and had a total of 8 points. Matt Nestor also hit a free throw, as Adams ended the period down 14-13. In the 2nd period, the 'bigs' came to life as Brad Nylen scored 6 points and Spencer Cairo had 2. Jacob Brown had 5 in the period to put Adams up 26-24 at the Half. Nick Zekaj made his return and contributed in the 3rd by playing the point position and connected on a free throw. Adams was down 42-38 going into the last period. Nylen had 10 points in the last period and buckets from Mario Roveda, Nestor, Cairo, Jacob Brown and Ben Hollett was not enough as Berkly connected on 4 free throws to end the game. Brad Nylen led the Highlanders with 18 points and 6 rebounds, Richard Park contributed 12 points and Jacob Brown had 9.
Monday1/26/2009SOUTHFIELDScore:59-64
The JV Highlanders came up short against Southfield on January 26th. Jacob Brown hit a '3' to start the game which was answered by Southfield with 5 straight points. The Highlanders bounced back though, to be up 16-13 at the end of the 1st period. Richard Park heated up with 5 points in the second, Kosta Patsarikas, Matt Nestor, Brad Nylen, Spencer Cairo and Jacob Brown all scored as well, but it was not enough as Southfield took a 35-31 lead at the Half. Ben Hollett had a couple of nice rebounds and played good defense, as the 3rd period ended all tied at 45. Southfield hit (3) three-pointers in the 4rth and sunk a couple of free throws at the end to seal the victory. Matt Nestor, Brad Nylen and Kosta Patsarikas led the Highlanders all with 11 points, Spencer Cairo added 10 and Richard Park had 7.

The JV Highlanders hopped back on the win trail with a 32-26 win over Rochester on January 29th. The young Highlanders displayed their stifling defense by holding Rochester to 9 points in the 1rst half and 11 points thru 3 periods. Nick Ojeshina, Brad Nylen, Matt Nestor and Ben Hollett all scored in the 1rst stanza to put Adams up 10-3. Nylen lit up for 8 points in the 2nd, while Desante Dinkens scored 2 and Spencer Cairo snared a couple of rebounds. Adams led 20-9 at the Half. Mario Roveda crashed the boards with a couple of rebounds and 2 points in the 3rd to help Adams take a 26-11 lead going into the 4rth. Frank Aragona had a couple of rebounds and a free throw in the 4rth. Also contributing was Ben Leutze with a couple of rebounds and Hollett crashed the boards as well to seal the victory. Brad Nylen led the way for the Highlanders with 16 points, Mario Roveda added 4.

The JV Highlanders beat cross-town rival Stoney Creek by the score of 51-45 on February 3rd. Adams jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the 1st period thanks to points from Brad Nylen, Ben Hollett, Richard Park, Matt Nestor and Mario Roveda. The stingy Highlander defense really played a part in the 2nd period. Spencer Cairo, Nick Zekaj, Ben Leutze contributed for a 23-16 Adams halftime lead. Brad Nylen scored 7 points in the 3rd period and had help from Nestor and Fran Aragona for an Adams 10 point lead going into the last period. Buckets by Cairo, Jacob Brown, and Nestor and late free throws by Richard Park and Nick Zekaj, sealed the Highlander victory. Matt Nestor led the Highlander charge with 12 points, Brad Nylen added 9 points and 7 rebounds, Richard Park had 7 points and Spencer Cairo and Nick Zekaj had 6.

The Adams JV Highlanders racked up another victory with a convincing 59-49 win over Troy Athens on February 6th. Adams started out slow in the 1st period with only Spencer Cairo and Ben Hollett scoring. Athens had a 10-4 lead at the end of the 1st stanza. In the 2nd, Adams displayed their offensive prowess by lighting it up for 18 points, with contributions from Brad Nylen, Cairo, Mario Roveda and Jacon Brown who scored 7. At the half Adams had a 22-17 lead. Matt Nestor, Nick Zekaj and Richard Park all lit up the scoreboard in the 3rd period to help Adams to a 39-31 lead going into the last period. Kosta Patsarikas came alive for 4 points in the 4rth period and free throws by Nestor and Zekaj sealed the win for the young Highlanders. Jacob Brown led the Highlanders with 11 points, Brad Nylen had 10 points and 8 rebounds, Matt Nestor added 9 and Spencer Cairo chipped in 8.

The Adams JV Highlanders notched another win to make their record 10-3 for the season. The 1st quarter against Notre Dame was less that encouraging for the Highlanders. Adams could only muster points from Brad Nylen, Nick Zekaj and Spencer Cairo while trying to hold off the explosive firepower from Notre Dame. ND led 18-6 at the end of the 1st period. Adams came to life in the 2nd thanks to a stingy defense and buckets by Ben Hollett, Kosta Patsarikas, Nick Zekaj, Mario Roveda, Cairo and Nylen. ND led 27-25 at the Half. Richard Park hit 2 three-pointers in the 3rd to help Adams to 41-37 lead going int the 4rth. Jacob Brown, Zekaj, Park, Hollett, Nylen and Cairo all lit up the scoreboard in the 4rth to seal the victory. Ben Hollett led the Highlanders with 14 points and 8 rebounds, Nick Zekaj had 13 points, Spencer Cairo delivered 11 and Richard Park had 8.

The JV Highlanders put on an offensive and defensive display by thumping Lake Orion by the score of 52-27 on February 12th. Adams raced to a 15-6 1st quarter lead thanks to points from Brad Nylen, Ben Hollett, Richard Park, Nick Zekaj, Jacob Brown and Nick Ojeshina. Park scored 7 points in the 2nd quarter and Brad Nylen crashed the boards to help Adams to a 29-13 lead at the half. A Spencer Cairo free throw and buckets from Park and Kosta Patsarikas was all Adams could muster in the 3rd, but still had a 34-16 lead going into the 4rth. Adams finished the game strong with Zekaj's 10 points in the last quarter . Also contributing were Matt Nestor, Ben Luetze and Frank Aragona. Richard Park and Nick Zekaj led the Highlanders with 12 points, Ben Hollett added 8 points and Brad Nylen had 6 points and 10 rebounds.

The JV Highlanders racked up their 5th straight win with a convincing 66-43 win over Avondale on February 17th. Adams jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the 1st quarter thanks to points from Mario Roveda, Ben Luetze, Richard Park and Brad Nylen. In the 2nd quarter, Nick Zekaj lit up the scoreboard with 6 points and had help from Spencer Cairo and Matt Nestor. Adams led 27-18 at the half. Ben Hollett came alive in the 3rd for 7 points, while Kosta Patsarikas dumped in 6 points and Justin Montroy had 2, for an Adams 50-29 lead going into the 4rth. Luetze, Cairo, Zakej, Nestor, Patsarikas, Hollett, and Nylen all scored in the 4rth to end the score at 66-43. Nick Zekaj led the Highlanders with 13 points, Ben Hollett had 9, Kosta Patsarikas had 8 and Brad Nylen contributed 6 points and 10 rebounds.

The JV Highlanders lost a close game to Troy by the score of 58-57 on February 20th. Troy jumped out to a 22-14 lead in the 1st quarter highlighted by four 3-pointers. In the 2nd Adams tightened their defense especially around the perimeter but still trailed at the half by the score of 36- 28. Adams came roaring back in the 3rd quarter holding Troy to 10 points while dropping 16 of their own. Adams was down 46-44 going into the last quarter. The 4th quarter was close throughout, until Nick Zekaj sank a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left to tie the game. Troy took the ensuing inbound and ran the length of the court for a layup that was the deciding basket in the contest. Brad Nylen hit a layup and was looking for the foul as the clock ran to zero, but to no avail, as Troy ended the game up by 1. Nylen led the Highlanders with 14 points and 8 rebounds, Ben Hollett added 11 points, and Spencer Cairo, Nick Zekaj and Matt Nestor each had 9. The JV Highlanders are 11-5 for the 2008-2009 season.

The JV Highlander train continues to roll down the tracks with an impressive 56-51 victory over Clarkston on February 24rth. At the start things looked anything but business as usual for the JV squad as they found themselves down 15-5 at the end of the 1st quarter. Coach Franklin's squad came to life though in the 2nd, outscoring Clarkston 21-7. Nick Zekaj lit it up for 7 points in the quarter including a '3' at the buzzer to put Adams up 26-22 at the half. Mario Roveda came to life in the 3rd scoring 7 points, but it was not enough as Adams was down 42-37 going into the 4rth. Spencer Cairo broke out for 6 points in the last quarter and Nick Zekaj, Richard Park and Brad Nylen hit free throws down the stretch to seal the victory for the young Highlanders. Nick Zekaj led Adams with 13 points, Mario Roveda added 9 and Spencer Cairo chipped in 8.

The Adams JV Basketball Highlanders notched their 13th win of the season with a 58-46 win over Berkley on February 27th. The Adams stingy defense was the difference in this game and contributed greatly to avenge a loss earlier in the year to Berkley. Both teams started slow and a bit sluggish and at the end of the 1st quarter it was tied at 8. Adams took a 26-20 lead at the half with scoring provided by Richard Park, Ben Hollett, Spencer Cairo, Brad Nylen, Matt Nestor and Nick Zekaj. In the 3rd quarter Brad Nylen scored 10 of the Highlander 13 points to help Adams to a 39-32 lead going into the 4rth. Matt Nestor and Mario Roveda put up points and Ben Hollett and Brad Nylen rebounded very well to preserve the Highlander victory. Brad Nylen had a 'double- double' with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Richard Park added 9 points, while Spencer Cairo and Matt Nestor contributed 6 points.

The JV Highlanders notched another win in the 2008-2009 campaign by beating Rochester 44-21 on March 3rd. Adams started the 1rst quarter on a 14-0 ran and never really looked back from there in this one. Ben Leutze and Mario Roveda led the charge on the opening stanza to put Adams up 16-2 going into the 2nd quarter. Matt Nestor lit up for 6 points in the 2nd and had help from Kosta Patsarikas and Nick Zekaj for a 28-11 Adams lead at the half. Spencer Cairo and Brand Nylen crashed the boards and scored in the 3rd to help Adams to a 39-15 lead going into the 4rth. Ben Hollett and Desante Dinkins closed the scoring from there as Adams cruised to victory. Matt Nestor led the Highlanders with 8 points, Kosta Patsarikas added 7 and Spencer Cairo chipped in 6.
Friday3/6/2009STONEY CREEKScore:27-41
The JV Highlanders came up short in their last game of the 2008-2009 season with a disappointing 41- 27 loss to Stoney Creek on March 6th. Both teams started to a very slow 6-6 tie at the end of the 1st quarter. Adams only managed 6 points in the 2nd as well to go into the half down 18-12. The 2nd half was pretty much all Stoney Creek as Adams had a difficult time getting any momentum on the offensive side of the court. Matt Nestor led the Highlanders with 8 points, Nick Zekaj added 6 and Brad Nylen had 4. The JV Highlanders had a real good season as their record was 14-6. Nice job boys, lots of work to be accomplished in the off-season to prepare for next year.
