Adams 57  Eisenhower 43

The Highlanders got their first victory of the year against Eisenhower. Ten players scored for Adams with Tyler Newsom contributing 15 points. Pressure defense with 18 steals by Adams caused a lot of problems for Eisenhower. Adams did not have a good shooting percentage from the floor, but did a great job passing the ball with 15 assist. Highlanders succeeded in their first victory with a balanced attack with ten players scoring and pressure team defense. Final Score 57 to 43.

WATERFORD MOTT

Adams 64
Mott 34

Waterford Mott started off quick getting the ball inside to Dowling for a quick six. The Highlanders responded with all five players scoring and shooting five for five from the free throw line pulling to an early lead 20 to 13 at the end of the first quarter. The Adams defense went to work in the second quarter allowing Waterford only four points. Jimmy Friel came alive and scored six points in the paint to help give the team a 20 point half time lead 37 to 17. The third quarter had the Highlanders spending time at the free throw line but only shooting 3 for 10. The Highlander defense continued to pressure Mott with them only shooting 29 percent from the field. Newsom pushed the ball inside the paint scoring six points and allowing Adams to extend their lead 51 to 25. Adams cleared the bench in the fourth quarter and still outscored Mott 13 to 9 in the fourth quarter. Both teams spent time at the free throw line shooting for a total of 22 shots in the quarter. Mott could only shoot 38 percent from the line. Highlanders succeeded in another victory with a balanced attack with ten players scoring and pressure team defense. Final Score 64 to 34.

WEST BLOOMFIELD

West Bloomfield Oakland Press Player of the week Eiglerberger scorched Adams with forty eight points. In spite of the two top scorers contributing 67 points for West Bloomfield, Adams hung in there. The Highlanders were behind by two at the end of the third quarter 60 to 62. Lakers shot 81 percent in the fourth quarter which Adams could not match. Tyler Newsom scored 21 points for the night with Justin Dawson contributing 16 and Matt Niemiec with 15. Again nine players scored for the Highlanders but still fell to a hot West Bloomfield team. Final Score 76 to 82.

STONEY CREEK

Adams 68
Stoney Creek 42

Stoney Creek Cougars started off with a quick seven points before the Highlanders were able to score. Then it was “Who let the dogs out”. Adams outscored Stoney in every quarter. Luke Stoebick lit them up in the first quarter with two shots from beyond the arc and two block shots and three steals for the night. In the second quarter as the Highlanders continued to press the Cougars Jimmy Friel came alive with six points in the paint. The Cougars got to the free throw line for seven shots but were still outscored 18 to 13 in the quarter. The third quarter had the defense tightening up and forcing Stoney into throwing up three pointers with no success and only shooting twenty one percent, obtaining only 5 points. On the other end of the court Adams shot eighty one percent putting in 16 points. The fourth quarter continued with everybody getting in the game and continuing the defensive pressure. There were a lot of trips to the free throw line for both teams. Jake Forhan was perfect from the free throw line and has not missed a free throw all year. Justin Dustin was perfect from field with his two point shots shooting five for five for the night. Tyler Newsom continued his normal game average point contribution with fifteen. Adams reduced their turnovers by half this game and out rebounded Stoney 23 to 19. Highlanders succeeded in another victory with a balanced attack of nine players scoring and full court pressure. Final Score 68 to 42.

ROMEO

Adams 60 - Romeo 52

Romeo started off with a quick six points before the Highlanders were able to score. Romeo was beating the Highlander press initially for some easy lay-ups. The Highlander's player rotation wore them down and they started turning the ball over and Adams pulled to an early lead by the end of the first quarter 16 to 12. They never gave up the lead the rest of the night. The Force was strong with young #2 Luke "SkyBlocker" Stoebick who is leading the team with blocks and he notched another three blocks for the night with his light saber arms. With numerous college scouts in the stands watching their college prospect Cushingberry being denied by Luke Skyblocker and Adams's team defense which allowed him only two made shots from the field for the night. # 31 Newsom improved his average with a major contribution putting in twenty points for the night and pulling down nine rebounds. In the second quarter Adams continued the pressure with four steals and forcing Romeo to turnover the ball. #13 Matt "Dodger" Niemiec picked their pocket with four steals. Dodger knew who had the hot hands on his team that night with his seven assists, including pulling down five rebounds and laying in eight points. #44 Jake Heinrich took a charge in the first quarter and spent a significant portion of the night mopping the floor with his back side trying to draw another charge with no luck. The strong bench of Adams wore down the key Romeo players getting them in foul trouble early in the first half. This denied them from having their best player rotation on the floor for any length of time. Adams avoided getting anyone person in foul trouble. #10 JD Osborne had a break out game scoring in every quarter and putting up sixteen points with a seven for eight performance from the free throw line. The third quarter had the defense tightening up and not allowing Romeo to make a three pointer shot all night long. Adams shot eight for ten from the field continuing to improve on their lead to finish the third quarter with a score of 47 to 34. In the fourth quarter there were a lot of trips to the free throw line for Romeo, but they only shot six for thirteen. Adams outplayed Romeo in every aspect of the game with eight players scoring and giving Romeo their first lose of the season. Final Score was Adams 60 and Romeo 52.

*TROY ATHENS

Adams 57 Athens 54

Athens started off with a quick six points before the Highlanders were able to score. Athens was able to break the Highlander press. Athens runs two 5 player rotation and was able to match our stamina and were not worn down. In spite of the Red Hawks resilience Adams pulled to a first quarter lead 17 to 12 with #44 Heinrich shooting 3 for 3 from the field. Second quarter continued with more of the same with # 31 Newsom putting in 11 points and 14 total for the night making the half time score 34 to 28. Athens came out quickly in the third quarter and beat the press for some easy lay-ups. Athens pulled ahead by the end of the third quarter 42 to 40. The Highlander defense tighten up in the fourth quarter allowing Athens to only score nine points. #22 Zekaj dropped a clutch 3 point shot in the final minute with #14 Dawson knocking down two critical free throws with 10 seconds left forcing Athens to have to shoot a three point shot to tie the game. #13 Matt "Dodger" Niemiec contributed nine points and 2 steals with #14 Dawson dishing the ball for six assists and putting in eight points. #2 Luke "SkyBlocker" swatted three shots out of the sky from the opponent and brought in seven points. Adams got their fifth victory of the year with a score of 57 to 54.

*LAKE ORION

Adams 52 Lk Orion 67

Adams started out slow against Lake Orion with Adams behind at the end of the first quarter 16 to 12. Lake Orion had only shot 31 percent bus was able to put up twice as many shots as Adams. The Highlanders came alive beyond the arc and dropped five 3 pointers in second quarter to pull in the lead 33 to 32. In the third quarter Lake Orion got twice as many shots in the paint as Adams and pulled ahead 48 to 42. Lake Orion got most of their points again inside the paint and shot 6 for 7 from the free throw line to finish with a win over Adams 67 to 52. #2 Luke Stoebick had his breakout game finishing with 15 points and scoring in every quarter. #31 Tyler Newsom contributed 14 points with eight players on the team scoring.

LAHSER

Adams 45- Lahser 55

Adams started out quick in the first quarter shooting 70 percent from the field pulling to an early first quarter lead 17 to 13. #31 Tyler Newsom dropped in nine points in the first quarter. Adams could not make a three point shot in the second quarter after six tries and slipped behind at the end of the first half 28 to 29. Lahser got off three times as many shots as Adams in the third quarter pulling to a 36 to 33 lead. Adams could not contain Lahser and had to start fouling in the fourth quarter. Lahser shot 7 for 9 from the free throw line in the quarter and won with a final score Lahser 55 and Adams 45. Ten Adams' players scored but nobody was able to get into double figures.

*AVONDALE

Adams 54 - Avondale 40

Both teams were sluggish in the first quarter. Adams shot 30 percent and Avondale shot 33 percent. Adams was able to pull out a small lead by the end of the first quarter, nine to six. In the second quarter Avondale had seven turnovers but the Highlanders could not buy a basket, shooting only 27 percent from the field. Avondale shot 75 percent and pulled ahead at half time 19 to 18. The third quarter was a shoot out at the free throw line. Avondale shot 10 for 10 from the free throw line with Adams shooting 8 for 12. Avondale only made one shot from the field and committed eleven turnovers so Adams was able to pull ahead by one, 32 to 31. In the fourth quarter they just about wore the paint off the free throw lines with another 25 shots from the line. #31 Tyler Newsom came alive putting in ten points and #14 Justin Dawson added six points. The Highlanders outscored Avondale 22 to 9 in the fourth to win the game 54 to 40.

*SOUTHFIELD

Adams 52 Southfield 55

 The Southfield game started out fast paced. Both teams put up a lot of shots. #2 Luke Stoebick put in six points but the Blue Jays ended the first quarter with a 17 to 14 lead. # 13 Matt Niemiec dropped in six and Southfield only shot 25 percent from the field allowing the Highlanders to pull with in one, 30 to 31 at the end of the first half. The third quarter had #31 Tyler Newsom dropping in eight points and the Highlanders pulling in the lead 49 to 47. In the fourth quarter the Blue Jays were able to get it inside the paint for 10 points and pulled off a victory over the Highlanders 55 to 52.

CLARKSTON

Adams 59 Clarkston 61

 The Highlanders got beaten with the back door cut by the Wolves and were behind 21 to 10 at the end if the first quarter. Every quarter after that Adams outscored Clarkston. The second quarter the Highlanders were 3 for 5 from beyond the arc and pulled to with in six, 25 to 31 at the end of the first half. The third quarter Adams shot 7 for 8 from two point range with #31 Newsom knocking down 3 highly contested shots and finished the night with fifteen points. The third quarter ended with Adams down by five, 39 to 44. The fourth quarter had both teams going to the free throw line. #14 Matt Niemiec contributed ten points in the fourth. The Adams team shot 8 for 8 from the free throw line in the final quarter. Adams had six seconds left with the ball to tie or shoot the three for the win, but were not able to get a clean shot off and lost by two to a strong Clarkston team 59 to 61. #14 Matt "Dodger" Niemiec shot 3 for 3 from three point range and was 4 for 5 from the free throw line with 7 assists and 4 steals finishing with seventeen points for the night.

*BIRMINGHAM GROVES

Adams 54 - Groves 47

The Highlanders through up a lot of shots and even with a shooting  percentage of 25 percent lead at the end of the first quarter 11 to 7.  The second quarter Groves shot 60 percent and pulled closer with a  half time score of Adams 27 and Groves 24. In the third quarter #31  Tyler Newsom put in seven points (seventeen for the night) to increase  the Adams lead 39 to 34. The fourth quarter both teams went to the  foul line. Adams made 6 of 8 and Groves made 3 of 9. # 13 Matt  "Dodger" Niemiec got his 4 steals for the night and 7 rebounds adding  8 points. #10 JD Osborne pulled down seven rebounds and shot 7 for 8  from the free throw line. Adams pulled off the win over Groves with a  score of 54 to 47.

*TROY ATHENS

Adams 40 - Troy Athens 57

Two days off from school and four days of no formal practice seemed to have affected the Highlanders offensive rhythm. Only two shots were made in the first quarter by Adams. Athens pulled to a healthy lead 19 to 6 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter Adams was able to score on fifty percent of their shots but were still outscored by Athens and fell behind by half time 33 to 17. The third quarter Adams came out with renewed energy and had an eight point run. Athens was able to score and stifle the Highlanders minor comeback. The Red Hawks rarely missed a shot in the fourth quarter and finished off Adams 57 to 40. The only Adams team member in double figures was #31 Tyler Newsom with ten. There were some impressive minutes played by sophomore #41 Brian Perry in his varsity debut.

Adams 41 - Lake Orion -
53

The firsts quarter started out slow with the Dragons getting a small four point lead.  The second quarter Lake Orion extended there lead. Adams was not able to get much of an offensive rhythm going the first half.  The second half  the Dragons out scored us by three points in each quarter to win the game by twelve.  Although eight Adam's players scored only two were in double figures each with ten, # 31 Tyler Newsom and #41 Brian Perry.  The Highlanders played hard and never gave up. The Dragons made 5 for 9 from three point range with the Highlanders shooting 1 for 12.   Final score was Adams 41 and Lake Orion 53.

*AVONDALE

Rochester Adams 64 - Avondale- 45

Adams played four quarters of solid basketball.  #42 Keal Blache put in 4 points in the first quarter and Adams pulled to a six point lead 15 to 9.  The second quarter Avondale came back with a hotter hand and shot 6 for 7 from the free throw line.  #31 Tyler Newsome started warming up and scored twelve points before half.  The third quarter the Highlanders struggled from the field but still scored more than Avondale.  The team settled down in the fourth quarter and found their stroke and the defense tightened up allowing Avondale only five points.   #13 Matt Niemiec was Mr. Assist with five.  Tyler Newsom caught on fire and finished the night with thirty-three points and shot perfect from the free throw line.   #44 Jake Heinrich helped out with 14 points and 8 for 8 from the free throw line.  In fact the whole team shot 14 out of 15 from the free throw line.

PONTIAC NORTHERN

Adams 70 - Pontiac
Northern- 80

Adams had one of their best rebounding games.  The lead went back in forth the first quarter and then the Huskies went on a short run to pull ahead 21 to 16.  #22 John Zikaj lit them up in first quarter with eight points.  The second quarter had both teams at the free throw line with Adams shooting 7 for 7.  The Wolves still pulled further ahead 43 to 34. The Highlanders put up a lot of shots in the third quarter but with only a 25 shooting percentage the Wolves pulled ahead by twenty.  The fourth quarter #31 Tyler Newsom was on fire and put in thirteen points.  #44 Jake Heinrich added nine for the quarter.  This narrowed Pontiac Northern's lead to single digits.  It was another great night for the Highlanders from the free throw line shooting 18 for 22 for 82 percent. Final score Adams 70 and Pontiac Northern 80.  #10 JD Osborne came off the injured reserve list and pulled down seven rebounds and added six points.  John Zikaj had his break out game finishing with 14 points.

*SOUTHFIELD

Adams 79 - Southfield 80

:
Adams had a night of overtimes.  The first quarter started out fast with
Southfield taking the lead 20 to 15 with their ability to drive the lane
for lay-ups.  The second quarter the Highlanders matched the Blue Jays
shot for shot.  Still Adams went into half behind by six.  The third
quarter Adams challenged Southfields shots allowing them to shoot only
thirty percent from the field.  #20 Jake Forhan had the hot hand making
eight points in the quarter.  The Highlanders were able to pull in the
lead 51 to 49.  The fourth quarter had both teams spending a lot of time
on the free throw line.  It came down to a three point shot by #13 Matt
Niemiec in the final ten seconds to tie the score 72 to 72 and to send
the teams into the first overtime.  Adams drove the lane for some nice
lay-ups, but Southfield shot 5 for six from the free throw line to tie
up the game and send them into a second overtime.  Adams got the lead in
the final minutes but could not maintain it and lost the game with a
final score 79 to 80.  #31 Tyler Newsom had a fantastic night making 38
points and pulling down ten rebounds.  #22 John Zekaj added fourteen
points and #20 Jake Forhan supported with ten of his own. 

TUESDAY

*ROCHESTER

Adams 50 - Rochester 47:

Adams had another night with an overtime.  It was senior night for
Rochester Adams and with five Seniors on the floor we were able to score
nine points in the first quarter but the Falcons got eleven.  In the
second quarter the well ran dry with Highlanders only making six points.
Adams could not get a clean shot off and kept turning over the ball.
Adams was behind at half 15 to 27.  The third quarter Rochester's
Henning was out due to dehydration and Adams went to town outscoring
Rochester 18 to 8.  At the end of the third quarter the Highlanders were
back with in three 31 to 34.  The fourth quarter was a struggle at the
free throw line for both teams.  The game was tied at the end of
regulation.  The Overtime had both teams going again to the free throw
line with Adams coming out on top shooting 5 for 7 and Rochester
shooting 2 for 7.  #13 was back in the zone and dropped in fifteen
points for the night.  #31 Tyler Newsom added his ten with seven other
Highlanders also scored.  The final score was Adams 50 Rochester 47.
