The JV Highlanders wore a black band on their jerseys in a special memorial tribute to Steve Rohner (Kevin’s dad). Friday, Dec. 15th marked the 2 year anniversary of Steve’s passing. Steve was actively involved in coaching many of these JV players in past years and was a good friend to us all. |

Adams 78
|
The JV played a jewel of a “team” game against neighboring Avondale High to gather their third straight victory 73-43. It is always a thing of beauty to see that extra pass made to the open man and it was executed flawlessly in this game. D-Love (Dominique Love) led all scorers dropping in 12 points with Joe Reynolds and Brian Perry each adding 11 points and Stefan Anderson contributing 10. |

The game was played at a torrid pace as both teams played a running style attack. There were several lead changes throughout the game and the JV came out strong after halftime to go ahead. The game was a little closer than the final score indicates as Southfield drained most of their free throws in the final seconds as Adams tried to narrow the gap. The JV version of the Crosstown Showdown was a community event not to be soon forgotten. Immersed in a college atmosphere, this was a great opportunity for the boys to experience basketball in a big time setting. The Highlanders were going up against kids they have played with before in various leagues and who they see around town so the emotions were running high throughout the game. The JV played one of the most well balanced scoring games of the season. Everyone was in on the action with 10 players scoring 4 or more points. Kevin Rohner led all scorers with 13 followed by Joe Reynolds who dropped in 10. Other scorers included Brian Perry with 8 points and Bob Patten & Cody Wilson each contributing 7 points. Kudos to all those who made this event happen. |

The JV Highlanders showed that being behind by 20+ points in the third quarter should be no reason to quit. While it looked like the game was out of their grip, the JV scraped and clawed their back in the fourth quarter to force an overtime with Southfield. The 4th quarter charge was led by Kevin Rohner who dished in four 3-pointers, one from way beyond the NBA mark. With a double bonus free throw situation, Southfield kept challenging Rohner by sending him to the line and he stepped up to the challenge by making all of his free throws. He finished the game with 25 points and sunk 13 of 14 free throws. Joe Reynolds also contributed significantly to the cause in the fourth quarter and finished the game with 27 points. The Highlanders forced a 2nd overtime and kept it close but Southfield prevailed by edging Adams JV 85-80. Kudos to the whole team for not giving up and showing the Highlander pride to the end. |

The Highlanders struggled a little bit with their free throws in the 1st half but improved in the 2nd half to pull away from Groves. The JV finished the season strong with a 12-8 record. Many of the losses this year were within a few points so the future bodes well with this group as they head to Varsity next year. |
