Adams           50
Southfield 49

THE HIGHLANDER EXPRESS ALMOST GETS DERAILED

Down by 5 points late in the fourth quarter, the Highlanders rallied, and beat
Southfield 50-49 in a gym that was as hot inside as it was cold outside.

Speaking of hot, John Wilson,  sparked Adams with some early outside shooting,
vaulting the Highlanders to a 16-9 first quarter lead. At the end of the half,
Adams led by four, and at the end of three quarters the lead shrank to two,
35-33. The fourth quarter saw Southfield first tie the game and then take the
lead. But led by the senior leadership of Ryan Kuhl and Dan Bruce, and some
clutch shooting by sophomore Tyler Newsome, Adams was in position to win the
game on what was hoped to be the final possession. The coaches designed the
play, but it was a put-back by Dan Bruce with 5 seconds on the clock that gave
Adams the lead. From there, the Highlanders defense held, giving Adams their
sixth victory in a row, and improving their overall record to 7-2, and their
divisional record to 2-0. Leading the Highlanders in scoring were Kuhl and
Wilson  who each had 14 points. Bruce had 10, including the game winner.

Newsome finished with 9. Rounding out the scoring was Tolomei with 2 and
Petrie with 1. The Highlander Express finally returns home for a game with
their cross town rivals, Rochester, on 1-18-05.
