ADAMS IMPROVES RECORD TO 5-2 OVERALL, AND 1-O IN THE DIVISION

Overcoming some early turnovers, Adams opened divisional play with a closely fought victory over Troy Athens.. Athens led most of the first half with the
Highlanders scratching back to tie the game at half-time. At the end of three quarters Adams led by three, and they held on in the fourth quarter to seal the victory, 50-46. The Highlanders were paced by the sharp shooting of Herbie Kipke who ended the night with 17 points, with four 3-pointers. Mike Tolomei had a strong game on both ends of the court, defensively by guarding the Athens key players, and offensively by adding 10 points.

Ryan Kuhl, who seems to be getting stronger and stronger with each game after returning from off-season surgery, added 7 points and had many key rebounds. Dan Bruce handled the ball well on his way to scoring 6 points. Adams scoring was rounded out with Newsome's 6 points and Wilson's 4 points, 2 of which were key free throws as the clock wore down in the fourth quarter.

The Highlander's defense kept the Athens high scoring offense in check, with Pat O'Neill, DeMario Petrie, and Jon Crandell playing key roles in coming off the bench.
Overall, it was a strong team performance in handing Athens their first loss of the season. It's short rest for Adams, as they put their four game winning streak on the line at West Bloomfield, MONDAY (and not the usual Tuesday), January 10, 2005.
