Down, but not out, the Highlanders staged a stunning comeback to notch their
first victory of the year over the Avondale Yellowjackets, 68-66. It was a tale
of two halves, with Avondale capitalizing on early Highlander turnovers and
racing to a 36-27 half time lead.
The second half, however was all Adams. Strong play from
Mike Tolomei, who finished with 11 points and several steals, and balanced
scoring, led by Bruce with 17, Wilson with 13, and Kipke and
Petrie with 11, thrust Adams into the lead for the first time late in the fourth
quarter. From there the Adams defense took over, forcing a Yellowjacket turnover
on the last possession and preserving the Adams victory. This was truly an
overall strong team performance as Adams evened their record to 1-1.
It doesn't get any easier for the Highlanders, as they welcome the highly
regarded Wolves from Clarkston on 12-17-04 at Adams.
